Wrestling example: Balanced stance and controlled reset, 30 minutes, 12 players, ages 9–12.
Wrestling: Balanced stance and controlled reset
An original CoachAssist teaching example adapted from our reviewed drill library. The clock includes setup, rest, and role changes.
Set up: A qualified wrestling coach demonstrates the team’s approved stance and individual movement before athletes begin. Give each athlete a separate, clear mat zone.
Equipment: Suitable wrestling mats and flat zone markers
Rotation: Give all 12 athletes clear individual zones. If space is limited, rotate small groups; waiting athletes watch from outside the practice zones.
- 0–4 min
Set up, demonstrate, rehearse slowly
- Check the surface, clear space, and equipment. Explain the stop cue and walk through where active and waiting players go. For ages 9–12, demonstrate one cue, then check control before changing the task.
- Demonstrate stance check and reset, then let players rehearse slowly. This time includes setup and the first easy turns.
- 4–12 min
Stance check and reset
- Coach demonstrates the team’s starting stance, a small individual movement, and the stop-and-reset cue. A title or picture is not technique instruction.
- Athletes rehearse only the demonstrated movement at a controlled pace, with no partner contact.
- Use brief turns with rest and coach checks between them. End every turn balanced in the starting stance.
- 12–14 min
Water and one coach check
- Stop the activity, make the ball or practice zone safe, and take water.
- Ask what helped the last turn go well. Demonstrate one correction before restarting.
- 14–26 min
Show a balanced reset
- Coach repeats the approved solo demonstration and names one thing to notice about balance.
- Athletes take short individual turns, stop on the cue, and show the balanced reset. Coach checks control before another turn.
- Ask each athlete to name the cue they noticed. No takedowns, partner resistance, knee-impact repetitions, or live wrestling are included.
- Use short sets with feedback, rest, and role changes throughout this block. The clock includes those pauses; it is not continuous exercise.
- 26–30 min
Finish and name the next step
- Stop the activity and collect equipment after all lanes are clear.
- Ask players to name the cue they used. Coach notes one skill to revisit next practice.
Coach-supervised solo stance rehearsal on suitable mats. Stop on pain, unsafe position, or loss of control. Previewing this example does not teach or certify a wrestling technique.
